Tadoba Tiger Reserve

The Park

Maharashtra’s oldest, and largest National Park, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve has changed with the times with pragmatic efficiency with the underlying rustic energy of the wild remaining constant throughout. This enticing park, named after the God Tadoba, a local tribal deity, and is divided into the Tadoba north range, Kolsa south range, and Morhuli range, sustained by two lakes and the Andhari River. Officially declared a tiger reserve in 1993, Tadoba is teeming with wildlife aside from the main act, the big cat. Expect to come across anyone from a hyena to sloth bears tussling in the vast wilderness on your safari here. A place where summers are unbearably hot, the cooler climes of winter make for easier more comfortable visits. Online booking of safaris in Tadoba opens well in advance and sells like hotcakes. Drive through the jungle of Tadoba, watching the odd mammal at a water hole, scavenging packs of hyenas or jackals, and more, as you listen in to sounds of the jungle that could tell you where the tiger prowls. Aesthetics aside, the real beauty here is in the role this Park plays in the conservation of these species and the education of the layman in their importance during such incredulously ignorant times. Follow the guide as he takes you through a journey of awareness in a fascinating world where the tiger still rules.

The Safaris

Located in the center of India, the vegetation here is mostly dry and deciduous which makes for easy access, perfect for jeep safaris. Depending on the sunrise, safaris here run from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.through the park’s three zones, Moharli, Tadoba, and Kolsa. The evening safari starts at 3 p.m. Apart from being one of the finest tiger habitats in the country, Tadoba does not disappoint in spotting the complex network of mammals and birds here. Home to a remarkable number of wildlife, look out for bison, wolves, hyena, jackal, deer and so much more as the jeep rumbles on. The hours speed by all too soon, and before you know it, you’ll be back at the park entrance at the end of your safari.
